About Marshall:

In June 1837, Andrew Bird, Zenas Bird and Aaron Petrie came across an area of land they found suitable to begin a settlement. In the fall of 1838, a fire destroyed the settlement. Hence, the area was known as Bird’s Ruins and is now known as Marshall.

In 1849, Bird’s Ruins became known as Hanchettville. The local railroad established a depot and the settlement renamed itself Howard City in honor of one of the railroad promoters. The village’s current name was named after Samuel Marshall. Marshall was officially incorporated as a village on January 24, 1905 and had a population of 467.

Marshall is tucked away on the eastern border of Dane county. We have managed to remain a community of caring for our neighbors while supporting a well influenced growth pattern. Our community has many unique features. Little A-Merrick-A is one of a kind amusement park, including train rides to search for the perfect Holiday tree or a ride on Halloween to hunt for the perfect pumpkin, our many lakeside parks offer adults and children numerous summertime activities, Firemen’s Park holds an annual summertime parade and festival, the circus brings joy to all ages and our schools offer a top notch education along with first class extracurricular activities.
